We’ve seen DivX going this route recently with. As anyone can tell ya IPTV on a computer screen has limited appeal. It will be interesting to see who the initial vendors will be if any partnerships actually pan out.

1 Monty Sony has included two tiny 80-watt front speakers and a not quite so tiny 80-watt sub that combine to deliver virtual surround sound via Sony’s S-Force PR Front Surround technology. The main unit offers HDMI compatibility and can upscale run-of-the-mill DVDs to 720p and 1080i though there’s no Blu-ray mentioned as yet. It is however compatible with standard DVD SACD Video CD DivX and MP3-coded discs and has a built-in DMPort so you can hook up peripherals directly like the bundled Bluetooth adaptor for matching to your Sony Ericsson phone. Set-up remains ludicrously simple thanks to the one-cable connectivity and a simple procedure of placing the included mic where you sit pressing the button and watching as the Sony sets up the optimum configuration. No price mentioned yet but expect to see it in stores come September.
