The browser might be good enough to shell out $30 but when was the last time you paid for a Web browser? Never that’s when. Also our review unit came packed with the plugin that allows for playback of AAC audio tracks in movie files. For our best quality DivX files (don’t ask where they came from please) we found this plugin necessary. So while we can accept paying for hardware additions we wish software plugins were simply included. Maybe when more people start buying these devices.

As for the 29 DVD player the extremely flat form factor might not look like much but it does house a bunch of functions. Features include DVD Audio playback all current video and audio formats an integrated scaler for video upscaling pixel-by-pixel image processing in progressive scan mode and DivX technology for compressed video file support and playback. If you are not one who settles for less the Harman Kardon Cinespecial 29 system will retail for ?1299 when it is released in ctober.

The small application adapts video files to the iPhone format. AVI divx mpeg and yes DVD are listed as supported. Ironically the iPhone program only works on the PC.

Daewoo said its player can pump out pictures at up to 1080p via its HDMI port. It will upscale DVD and JPEG photos to full HD resolution and supports DivX content too. The DBP-1000 can handle all the major recordable and rewriteable DVD and CD formats along with BD-R and BD-RE discs.
