LG RH199 DVD recorder

Menus are easy to use and recordings look very good. A saved episode of Star Trek: Enterprise retained both the shine of the sets and the woodenness of the cast. As well as being able to play DivX files the recorder also lets you copy DivX movies to the hard disk jukebox-style. This nifty feature and the versatile DVD recording add to an impressive model from LG. It’s just a shame about the lack of an EPG.

SanDisk’s Simple PC-to-TV Solution

While that’s convenient this design made the remote uncomfortable to use: When detached from the drive the sharp corners that stick up from one end kept poking the palm of my hand. I watched a whole movie and was generally satisfied with the experience. The player is compatible with video stored in Xvid and Divx formats. SanDisk says it also works with video encoded into MPEG-4 but when I loaded a few videos I had stored in that format they didn’t appear in the list of videos to watch when the device was plugged into the TV. Downloads with FanfareTakeTV is also designed to work with a new Web download service that SanDisk has launched.

Some also had external disks or other peripherals attached when they pulled the trigger on the Leopard install. But plenty of people reporting problems swear they aren’t in either category. Incompatibilities with DIVX Application Support and Tiger’s RAID system may also be at play.

A few years ago I bought a XBX not for the games I bought it modded so I could run XBX Media Centre. It was cheaper than building a HTPC about the same price if not cheaper (at the time) as a network capable divx player. I could watch downloaded TV episodes off my PC over the network. It was a fantastic setup. I already had a Gamecube – my first games console since the grandstand kevin keegan thing. I had been a Spectrum – AtariST – PC gamer for years.

Besides playing DVD discs the SD-P120DT also has an integrated digital TV tuner. Via an SD card slot the player can also decode WMA and MP3 music files as well as DivX videos. The Toshiba SD-P120DT TV also has an HDMI input to connect high definition equipment like a Sony PS3. With the included battery back the Toshiba SD-P120DT can operate for 3 hours.
