DivX NEC Electronics sign licensing deal

said Tuesday it has signed a multiyear licensing agreement with Japanese chip company NEC Electronics Corp. Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal is to integrate DivX’s high-definition technology into NEC chips designed to power Blu-ray players digital televisions and set-top boxes. Shares of DivX rose 10 cents or 2 percent to $5.

has persuaded two more studios — Paramount and Lionsgate — to use its compression and antipiracy technologies on the movies they make available for downloading. DivX has two other nonexclusive deals with major Hollywood studios — it revealed alliances with Sony Pictures in January 2008 and Warner Bros. At its current pace it should have another deal or two to announce in June 2010.

Given those numbers I guess I’m K with it. As long as it’s only the terrorism and kiddy porn stuff they’re after. Personally I gotta have my Divx movie rips on long haul flights. “Keeping Americans safe in an increasingly digital world depends on our ability to lawfully screen materials entering the United States” DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement. “The new directives announced today strike the balance between respecting the civil liberties and privacy of all travelers while ensuring DHS can take the lawful actions necessary to secure our borders. There’s still definite privacy concerns though. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed suit for more information on the searches earlier this week.
